Landlords, most of you will know you must have annual gas safety inspections undertaken on your properties and certificates provided by the inspector. But do you know the consequences should you fail to meet your responsibilities ?
We recently read a report where a Landlord who repeatedly failed to carry out annual gas inspections on one of his properties was guilty of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Gas Safety (Installation and use) Regulations 1998. This led him to being sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for a year, and 200 hours’ community service, and he was ordered to pay £30,000 in costs.
But of course the consequences could have been far worse or the Landlord and Tenant if faulty equipment had caused injury or death.
In light of the above we are sure you will agree it now seems even more important to ensure your gas inspections are carried out on time.
